New Years Day Captains Drive-off
A red letter day as the Club welcomed our new Captains and Vice Captains in their traditional "Drive In".
Bright sunshine, a big breakfast and a near full clubhouse said thank you to the 2022 Captains, Mary Saddington and Mike Mahony, for all their hard work over the last two years.
We welcome Anna Avery as 2023 Lady Captain and Ros Waterhouse as her Vice-Captain and David Halford Gents Captain and his Vice-Captain John Flavell.
The Captains narrowly beat the Vice Captains in a close-fought match. The winner of the Longest Drive lottery prize was Ian Purdy.
Safeguarding and protecting children and vulnerable adults is the responsibility of all members and visitors to Retford Golf Club.
To demonstrate that Retford Golf Club, as a whole, are committed towards presenting a SafeGolf environment for children, young people and vulnerable adults we have revised our policies to reflect this. This is supported by our further commitment to meet the EGU SafeGolf accreditation requirements.

In addition to the revised policies the club have appointed a new Welfare Officer – Steve Hyatt (see photo). The role of the Welfare Officer is clearly laid out through the role description which can be accessed through the club office.
Junior golf is very important to any golf club and Retford have this clearly implanted within our vision to develop a safe and rewarding junior golf experience. The measures are adopting are to ensure we provide a SafeGolf environment and that all those recruited/volunteer to work with juniors meet the guidelines.

England Golf Public Liability Insurance
England Golf, through whom we cover all members, now offer (as of 1st July 2019) £10 million personal liability cover. This is in the event that you are held liable for injuring someone or causing serious property damage at a golf facility. This covers members playing at any club in the UK.
There is no excess in respect of personal injury claims and only £500 excess in respect of damage to third party property.

James Freeman - PGA Coach at Retford Golf Club
James is the PGA Professional Coach at Retford Golf Club and we are very proud of the success he is experiencing this year.
During 2018 James entered the PGA Europrotour in April and qualified in 9th position from over 1,000 golfers through the UK and Ireland. Having his PGA degree meant that he could play in both sets of events.
On the PGA Europrotour James has played 12 out of the 15 events and made every halfway cut. His best finish is a 10th position at Longhirst Hall near Newcastle. He has been under par in virtually every round of golf this season. James has qualified for the PGA Europrotour Championships at Desert Springs in October.
He also sits at the top of the PGA English rankings having had a 2nd and a 3rd in the two PGA flagship events at Saunton, Devon and Little Aston, Midlands with a combined total of -25 (under par).
James is also the back to back winner of the Nottinghamshire Order of Merit 2017 & 2018, quite an achievement!
Recently just Qualified for the European Tour 2nd stage at Frilford Heath, Oxford, James finished in 6th position from 134 players from all over the world. The next round is in Spain in early November.
